From the Pastor…
What a wonderfully inspiring trip we had to the Ark and Creation Museum last month. Sadly, a few folks came home with positive Covid tests. I am afraid that this is going to become the norm in our world going forward. If we are going to get out and live life at all, we are going to risk infection. It occurs to me that Christ’s Great Commission should be no different. In other words, if we get out and live life, we should be sure that everyone we contact is presented with the gospel message. So there is a good way in which we can be infectious – the Good News is contagious! Be sure to make your light shine everywhere you go!
October ushers in lots of exciting opportunities for us. Life Line Screening will be performing potentially life-saving health screenings on Monday, the 3rd. We will also have a blood drive the next Monday, the 10th. Please contact Linda McKenzie for more information or to register for either of these important events.
Homecoming happens on October 9. We are blessed this year to have Dr. Jerry McGee return to Roberdel to deliver the Homecoming Message. I hope you will be present and will join us for fellowship and a meal following the service. Let me know if there is anyone who should receive a special invitation to attend. Plan to bring your favorite dishes that day to share!
The Annual Meeting of the Pee Dee Baptist Association will take place on Monday, October 17 at Crestview Baptist Church in Rockingham. I will be delivering the Annual Sermon and Stanley McDonald will provide Special Music, beginning at 7 pm. Your support would be greatly appreciated! If you are available to attend the entire meeting, registration begins at 3:30 pm, and we are in need of messengers to attend. Please contact the church office if you are interested in serving as a messenger.
Please pray for me on the 23rd, as I preach for Homecoming at Swift Creek Baptist Church in Raleigh, a church I served as pastor from 2002-2010. It is always a pleasure to be reunited with old friends and deliver the gospel in a church where I invested much of my ministry.
On October 30, we will host our annual “Trunk or Treat,” from 6-8 pm. Please help us make this event better than ever by volunteering to decorate a trunk and hand out candy to the children of our church and surrounding community. We reached hundreds with this ministry last year and are certain that attendance will only increase going forward. Please contact Carman Hadinger or Bob Nelson if you can decorate a trunk. We are also in need of donations to purchase candy to hand out.
Don’t forget that we also have 24 hours of prayer beginning at 12:00 am on the 6th (always the first Thursday of each month). Lisa Talley can help you find a time slot that works for you. We also need volunteers to help feed folks at the Hamlet Soup Kitchen on the 13th (always the second Thursday of each month). And our Senior Adult Outing is scheduled for the 20th.
While we have all of these exciting opportunities this month, don’t forget about our regular Sunday and Wednesday services, as well as other scheduled and special events where you may be active and do ministry. There is a place for every person here at Roberdel. I hope to see you in your place of service and worship in your church very soon!
In Christian Love,
Pastor Billy
