From the Pastor, April

Pastor Billy Dennis

From the Pastor…

April 1 marks the beginning of my third year as Senior Pastor here at Roberdel – no fooling (see what I did there?)! It doesn’t seem like we have been here for two whole years, yet your love and encouragement make us feel as though we have had a lifelong friendship. It has been a busy two years and we have seen God do some amazing things during this time. I look forward to all that He has in store for us going forward.

In my first year of planning, I focused on unity. In the past year, I have focused on discipleship. In the year ahead, my intentional focus is going to be on evangelism. I know that word strikes fear in many hearts because it sounds like something that needs to be left to the professionals. But we will see that evangelism is what all of us are called to do – sharing the good news of Jesus with all people. We are already well on our way to reaching our community with the efforts we are placing on inviting our lost and hurting neighbors to come and see that God loves them, and so do we!

I pray that you are utilizing the True Life cards that have been distributed on Sundays and Wednesdays. We have thousands more where those came from! Don’t be shy about giving them away and inviting people to our church. The awesome thing about these cards is that a person can go to the website for answers to life’s most difficult questions whether they come to church or not. We also have hundreds of DVDs of “The Jesus Film.” This is a wonderful tool to share with those who need to know Christ. Please let me know if you need more cards or DVDs to share with your friends and acquaintances. If you want to see our church grow numerically, this is the most basic and most successful way to do it – by individuals sharing one-on-one.

I am excited about our big events on Easter weekend. This is the perfect time for us to be inviting people to come to church. Even those who rarely enter the church doors will be drawn to Christ during the Easter season. This is an opportunity we cannot ignore! Please help us reach out and bring in folks who need Jesus. Let’s show them that God loves them. Let’s show them that we love them and want them here. Let’s be the example they need to see and make the good news of Jesus Christ something they want to embrace!

Don’t forget that Preschool registration is underway for next fall. Randi Wood is doing a wonderful job leading this ministry. Pastor Jason continues to be an awesome resource to her and the staff. Help us share the excitement we have about Roberdel Baptist Preschool!

Finally, I would like to encourage everyone to get involved in Sunday School. These small groups are the best way to find your place in God’s church. There is a class for everyone. If you have not been involved, you are welcome to try several classes before you make a commitment to be a member of any particular class. This is a vital time for us to grow as Christians. If you haven’t been to Sunday School in a while, come give it a try this Sunday. I believe that you will be glad you did!

In Christian Love,

Billy Dennis
